FAQ
Can I come to Summit Alone?
View Answer
Yes. At every Summit Conference we see young people and young adults come to Summit by themselves, yet when they leave, they have forged new relationships and new friendships.
What is Summit?
View Answer
Summit is a weeklong conference designed to promote spiritual growth and Christian fellowship among high school age young people and young adult singles within our churches. Or to put it in the words of those who have come to Summit in the past: SUMMIT IS AWESOME!
What if my church cannot send a chaperone? (Pertains only to High School Youth)
View Answer
If your church sends 8-10 young people then you are required to send a chaperone (the ideal number is 2 chaperones for every 10 young people). However, we realize that some churches only send 1 or 2 young people and cannot send a chaperone. In those cases we can make an exception but then you must contact us at info@summitrefcon.org and let us know. Those young people will be assigned to a group with a chaperone.
Also, we can always use MORE chaperones. If your church has a married couple who may be interested in attending Summit (even if you have no YP coming), please send them.
How is Summit Funded?
View Answer
Summit is funded by a combination of registration fees, church offerings and personal donations.
The $375 Registration Fee covers each registrant 's meals and accommodations for the week. Each registrant also pays an additional fee for their out-day activity.
Church Offerings and Personal Donations cover the cost of leasing our meeting space on the campus of Mt. Royal University as well as the cost of Summit speakers (airfare and honorariums), staff expenses (staff members, nurses, etc.), daily snacks and drinks, etc.
For Summit 2019 for example, we budgeted $32,000 for church offerings and personal donations. We give thanks to God for the generosity of the churches and Summit supporters as we exceeded the budgeted amount and have a much needed surplus heading into Summit 2020.
What is a day at Summit like?
View Answer
The days at Summit are deliberately busy and long so you can cram in as much learning, fun and fellowship as possible. Each day of Summit features a "Main Session" where we meet together to sing a few songs and hear from one of our Main Session speakers. On Tuesday and Wednesday you will attend the Break-out sessions and also participate in the sports tournaments or in the outside games. Thursday is the Out-Day activity in the afternoon and the Talent Show at night. on Friday we wrap up the Conference at 11:30 a.m.
If I fly to Calgary how can I get to the Mt. Royal Campus?
View Answer
Over the last four years, volunteers from Bethel URC in Calgary have provided free rides back and forth from the Calgary International airport to the Mt. Royal University Campus. For Summit, we will make every effort to continue to provide this service, but if we get more poeple flying in to Calgary than we can provide rides, then public transportation is definitely the way to go. There are cab, bus and Uber options. The address to the Mt. Royal University campus is located on the details page.
Are there free time activities at Summit that do not involve sports?
View Answer
Yes. We have an extensive collection of board games and card games that are available to play during your free time. Also, we have outdoor games like Nine-Square, human Dutch Blitz, Can-Jam, etc.
Do I need to bring money -- and what about Canadian Currency?
View Answer
It is not necessary to bring cash to Summit. All your food and drinks are provided. Howver, if you want to buy some Summit Gear, or maybe get a coffee at Tim's, or buy lunch on Friday on your way home then bringing some extra cash is probably a good idea. As far as Canadian currency goes, check with your own bank before you come and see if they are able to convert some of your US dollars into Canadian dollars.
Can I bring a friend to Summit who does not attend a Reformed church?
View Answer
Absolutely -- and what better place to bring them than to a Conference where they can learn more about the Reformed faith. Just be sure that your friend knows what he or she is in store for. You may want to show them all the topics that will be discussed.
If your friend is not a believer, or does not belong to or attend church, then it might be best to discuss this question with your parents and pastor. As Summit organizers, we operate under the assumption that everyone who registers for the Conference loves God, has faith in Him, and belongs to (or regularly attends) a church.

How can I raise money to help offset my registration fees?
View Answer
We have found that organizing fundraisers at your church is one of the best ways to help offset the cost of your registration fees PLUS you get to provide a service to your congregation at the same time.
Here at Bethel URC in Calgary, we organize annual bottle drives, we assist in making croquettes at church and then sell them to the members of the congregation. We also have a Dutch food sale where we order traditional Dutch goodies and our youth group gets a percentage of each sale. We have done movie nights as well as ice cream socials.
Our goal is to have each member of your youth group raise half their registration fee by working at these fundraisers. Also, to encourage and assist our young people in attending Summit, the Bethel Council has designated a generous amount of our church's annual budget to offfset conference fees.
How can I support Summit as an organization?
View Answer
The most important way to support Summit is through your faithful prayers. Please pray for the Summit organizing committee. We work year-round and have a total blast organizing each conference, but there is a ton of work that goes on behind the scenes.
Also, if you would like to help support us financially, there are several options.
1. You can ask your deacons to take an offering for Summit or ask them to add Summit Reformed Youth Conference as a budget line item on their annual budget.
2. Some of you have helped tremendously by asking local Christian businesses in your churches and communities to make a donation to Summit.
All church offerings and donations can be sent to Summit's supervising church, Bethel URC, and then our deacons will disperse those donations to our account.
